The privatisation of education and the destruction of local support for schools in the form of academies and 'free schools' is the first wave of an assault on our education system. Cuts to services and an attack on our 'gold plated' pensions will come soon no doubt. Have a great holiday and let's be ready in September to start the fight back against any attack on comprehensive education. ...http://www.leicesternut.org.uk/news.htm?news_id=681http://www.leicesternut.org.uk/news.htm?news_id=681Wed, 07 Jul 2010 21:57:54 GMTNew Faces in the OfficeJenny Day, currently Leicester NUT President, became an Assistant Secretary at the last Annual General Meeting. Initially Jane shared the Secretary role with Andrew Hind, before taking over in her own right in 1997. For the past eighteen months, I have been privileged to share the role with her. I taught for many years in a few schools, the most memorable being the years I spent at Abbey Primary School. You can tell I'm from another generation because I really see the years in the 70s and early 80s as the 'golden years'. I know schools were not perfect then, but the pressure was not so intense and I think the children and staff were happier than now. ...http://www.leicesternut.org.uk/news.htm?news_id=678http://www.leicesternut.org.uk/news.htm?news_id=678Wed, 07 Jul 2010 21:54:41 GMTGateway to Victory in Annual QuizForty NUT members enjoyed last week's Leicester NUT annual quiz.
