Decibel levels
School buildings can be noisy places at the best of times. It often seems that good acoustics are one of the least important considerations when designing a new school. However, employers have a duty to monitor and attempt to control noise levels. They should carry out a risk assessment which may involve measuring decibel levels. A daily exposure level of 80 dB(A) is sufficient for employees to be entitled to ask for ear protectors.
