Just Imagine...

• Schools free from league tables.
• No SATS.
• Shorter school days.
• Free hot lunches for all children.
• Ten week summer holidays.
Sounds like pie in the sky nonsense?
Try moving to Finland.
Finland is way ahead of Britain, the US and educational hot houses like China and Japan according to an education survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Finland has more graduates than any other country and its 15 year olds are best at solving maths problems. Since OECD's first major education survey in 2000, Finland has led the world in literacy.
Wouldn't it be nice if the assessment, prediction and target obsessed people influencing educational policy in England and Wales spent some time in Finland!
