The key to recruitment - you!
All the research evidence confirms what we know instinctively to be the truth - the best recruiters to the NUT are NUT school representatives.
Teachers not in membership say, "Nobody ever asked me". Remember the key message to you as school representative - "If you ask them, they will join".
Research and common experience show that most people join because they have been invited to do so by a colleague. Your persuasion and enthusiasm is more effective than any advertisement, brochure or national initiative.
What are the first steps to bring new colleagues into membership?
There are three easy steps - easy but they must be taken by YOU!
- STEP 1 Make a special effort to meet and welcome your new colleagues.
- STEP 2 Introduce yourself as their NUT school or college representative.
- STEP 3 If they are not already members, get them to join the NUT.
What is the quickest way of joining the union?
By using the NUT Membership Hotline, 0845 300 1669. Call between 9.00 am and 5.15 pm on any weekday. Prospective members should have their home and school postal codes ready. DfES numbers will help but don't worry if they are not readily available.
