Appendix 1

STANDARD LETTER

THERAPEUTIC RETURN - SCHOOLS BASED STAFF

Dear

RETURN TO WORK PART-TIME ON A THERAPEUTIC BASIS

I am writing to confirm that, following our recent discussions, arrangements have been made for you to return to work, initially on a part-time basis, with effect from ............ . Specifically you will work the hours set out below for the period(s) indicated.

Set out hours - example:

For the two weeks beginning 1 February you will work in the mornings only (i.e. 8.30 - 12.00, 17½ hours).

For the following two weeks, i.e. 15 February - 26 February you will work Monday, Wednesday and Friday (mornings only) and Tuesday and Thursday (all day) (i.e. 23 hours - 3½ days).

I hope that you will be in a position to resume full-time working/your normal working hours (whichever is applicable) from 29 February.

EITHER

According to our records your current sick pay entitlement is full/half pay. Whilst you are working on a therapeutic basis the following special pay arrangements will apply to you:-

The payroll service will contact you separately regarding any statutory benefits which you have retained on your return to work. These may need to be off-set against the above payment, to achieve the aim that you are not worse off by being at work than you would have been had you remained on sick leave.

I will meet with you regularly during the therapeutic return period to ensure that things are going well. If there are any problems, however, please do not hesitate to raise them with me.

I would prefer that you do not take annual leave during the therapeutic return period. I am sure that you will understand that it would defeat the purpose of this arrangement. If this presents problems, please discuss them with me and if it is agreed that you can take the leave, each day will be regarded as a days annual leave and you will receive a normal days pay.

SICKNESS RECORD

For purposes of your sickness record (and subsequent entitlements) that portion of your normal hours which are not worked during your therapeutic return period will be deemed to be sickness absence.
